Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be isolated for two weeks after his wife, Sophie, on Thursday (12/3) tested positive for the corona virus. The outbreak forced the Province of Ontario authorities to close schools to prevent the spread of the virus.
“The Prime Minister’s health condition is in good condition and shows no symptoms. As a precautionary measure, and on the advice of the doctors, he will be isolated for 14 days,” said a statement.
Sophie will also be quarantined for 14 days.
“The Prime Minister will continue to carry out his duties and will give a statement to the people of Canada tomorrow,” the statement read.
Sophie Gregoire Trudeau recently returned from London and experienced several flu symptoms. Because of this, he underwent corona virus testing, the prime minister’s office said on Thursday. Test results showed Sophi was corona positive, the PM’s office said late Thursday.
Canada reports 145 new cases of the virus, tripling from a week ago.
One person in Canada died of corona while seven out of 10 provinces in Canada reported cases of COVID-19 infection.
Ontario, the province with the most population, reported only 17 new cases overnight, which represents an increase of 40 percent.
To stem the virus, local authorities have ordered schools to be closed from Saturday (3/14) to April 5.
